The fourth meeting of the INTOSAI Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals and key sustainable development indicators (WGSDG KSDI) took place in online format. The event was attended by 169 participants.
Belarus was represented at the meeting by Nikolai Zenchyk, Head of the Department of the State Control Committee with the report "Evaluation of the effectiveness of measures to reduce the number of excessive construction in progress. The participants were informed about the measures taken in Belarus to reduce such facilities and spoke about the possibilities of solving this problem.
Since 2021 the State Control Committee coordinates the activities of all interested bodies in solving the problem of reducing the number of uncompleted construction projects. Nikolay Zenchyk noted that the State Control Committee has become the driver of the work in the republic to reduce excessive construction, constantly monitoring this process and influencing the situation. "Every facility that exceeds the norm is now on the books and there is an understanding of how to bring this work to its logical conclusion," summarised the SCC's speaker.
Other members of WGSDG KSDI addressed the meeting. In particular, Seyed Ahmadreza Dastgheib, President of SAI of Iran, President of ECOSAI informed about the experience and approaches of SAI of Iran in the field of SDG audit. The reports on the audit of health care system in the context of COVID-19 measures (SAO Kuwait); audit of solid waste management program (SAI Philippines); sustainable development of cities and communities (SAI Algeria); and public finance management system (AFROSAI secretariat) were also heard.
The experts were introduced to the Climate Scanner initiative presented by the Brazilian SAI and examples of SDG implementation audits in Morocco.
At the end of the session, participants discussed the Action Plan of the Working Group on SDGs and Key Sustainable Development Indicators 2023-2024.
