Belarusian delegation took part in the events of 19th plenary week of Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG) that was held from 10 to 15 November, 2013 in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan).
All the EAG member-states and representatives of more than ten EAG observers and international organizations as well as the FATF President Mr. V. Nechaev participated in the meetings.
Belarusian delegation led by Vitaly Prosvirov (Financial Monitoring Department of State Control Committee) was comprised of the representatives of Financial Monitoring Department, National Bank, Ministry of Internal Affairs and State Security Agency of the Republic of Belarus.
The Plenary meeting approved follow-up reports on India and Russia previously adopted at the FATF Plenary meetings. Plenary meeting removed China, India and Russia from the EAG monitoring procedures.
Leader of the Indian delegation Dr. K.P. Krishnan was elected as the EAG Chairman.
The participants discussed progress made by Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan for improvement of their national AML/CFT systems. The Plenary meeting approved the schedule of the EAG events for the first half of 2014, EAG working groups’ reports.
Head of the Belarusian delegation Vitaly Prosvirov made a report on current and planned participation of Belarus in FATF activity. He described changes in national legislation in the sphere of combating money laundering and terrorist financing, presented information on implementation of EAG action plan for 2013 and 18th Plenary meeting decisions.
As part of EAG Plenary week a meeting of the Council of Heads of Financial Intelligence Units of CIS countries was also held in Ashgabat. Currently Belarus is chair of Council. The meeting was attended by the leaders of the FIUs of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine. Council adopted strategic decisions relating to the planning and organization of Council activity.
The delegates from Belarus made a presentation at the EAG Regional Workshop on asset freezing in accordance with the requirements of UN Security Council Resolution 1373 (2001) with the participation of UN CTED that was held during the Plenary week. All news
